This method of producing bronze-ware, known locally as “khan long hin” or “stone-polished bronze-ware” from the stone wrapped in cloth used for polishing, was originally used for storing water, rice and as an alms bowl by Buddhist monks and has been in existence for several hundreds of years. However, due to modern and cheaper production methods this traditional method of fashioning bronze bowls and plates by hand-hammering, heating, quenching and hand polishing has all but disappeared.
For the discerning customer who requires only authentic, traditionally produced products we have managed to locate one of the few surviving producers of this exquisite hand-made bronze tableware still produced by traditional methods, although some concession is given to electricity in the finishing stages!
Working in intense heat these master craftspeople, working in pairs and who have taken up to 20 years to perfect their skills, hammer the almost molten bronze into shape before the final finishing and polishing to bring you these wonderful bronze plates, bowls and cake trays. To produce 8 large bronze bowls it takes around 4 days with 6 different people involved in the process. Click below to take a quick look at these bronze tableware items being produced:-
Of course, unlike cheaper methods that are used for mass production producing identical products for the mass-market, this technique of hand-hammering and hand-finishing the bronze can never produce identically sized pieces and each one may vary slightly in size, with any pattern also varying according to the invidual craftsperson, testimony to the individuality of all hand-produced products. Please bear this in mind when ordering these products as measurements provided on this website can only ever be approximate.
Over the past 50 years the designs have been developed to suit modern tastes producing a superb collection of bronze tableware and table decoration, available in a choice of natural black or polished bronze finish, with or without patterned edging. When purchasing any of these exquisite pieces you will be buying not only a centerpiece of attraction in your home for years and generations to come but also a part of the rich culture of South East Asia.
The collection of bronze tableware includes bronze plates and saucers, small bronze bowls suitable for use as cups or soup bowls, larger bronze bowls suitable for salad or rice as well as general serving bowls, fruit bowls and bronze cake trays with or without a stand.

A note of caution: As with many other types of metallic tableware, such as silver, it is not recommended that these bronze table settings be used for storing food, particularly food of an acidic nature. Always wash after use and dry thoroughly with a dry cloth to avoid leaving any moisture on the surface of the bronze. If in doubt when serving acidic foods place the food in a ceramic, or other suitable, container placing this inside a bronze bowl or on top of a bronze plate.
Many
people use these table settings for special occasions and for display
purposes in between use. To avoid tarnish the pieces should be cleaned
periodically using a recognized brand of metal cleaner or polish and
wiped afterwards with a dry cloth to remove all moisture. When using a
metal cleaner or polish ensure that the bronze table settings are
washed and dried thoroughly before using for food or beverage.
